Korea's Joo-Hee looks to become best referee

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 8, 2010 – Korea’s Kang Joo-Hee has officiated thousands of games making her one of the most experienced referees in world Volleyball today. She recently spoke to the FIVB about her career.

Q: Are you an international referee or FIVB referee?
A: International Referee

Q: What’s your occupation in your country?
A: Ph.D for Sports Psychology

Q: How long have you been acting as a Volleyball referee, international referee? FIVB referee?
A: A National referee since 1992 and an International referee since 2005

Q: What major FIVB tournaments have you whistled?
A: The FIVB World Grand Prix, the FIVB Women’s World Championship qualification rounds, the FIVB Women’s Junior Championships in Mexico (first referee for semifinal and final), Asian women’s Junior Championship (final) in Sri Lanka in 2004 and Asian Women’s Championship in Taicang, China, in 2005.

Q: Have you been a Volleyball player or athlete of any other sport before becoming a referee?
A: I played Volleyball for 12 years and was a former Korean national team player. I became a member of the senior national team at 18, but I retired at 22. I was exhausted, there was always too much pressure

Q: In your opinion, what is the most important merit to be a good referee?
A: Experience and study are very important, I hope to become a very good referee.

Q: Do you have any hobby or interests? How do you spend your spare time?
A: I like cooking, watching movies and listening to classics. I am a good cook and quick learner. I can make different style of food including Korean, Japanese and Chinese.

Q: Do you have any objective for your career as a referee?
A: I want to be a FIVB referee, just like Ms. Zorica Bjelic of Serbia.
